Moyes: Johnson's the man

David Moyes insists Andrew Johnson is the man to fire England to glory.

David Moyes insists Andrew Johnson is the man to fire England to glory against Israel and Andorra.

Johnson joins up with England on Tuesday ahead of the Euro 2008 qualifiers at the top of his game after scoring the winner against Arsenal in the Premiership on Sunday.

The goal was his 12th of the season and the Everton boss believes his striker is the right man to be paired with Wayne Rooney in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

"Andy is definitely up to the task of playing for England. If England have got the players who can put him into the box, he will get through and score," explained Moyes.

"He is always a threat, always on the shoulder of the last defender and he is always likely to get in behind a defence with his pace.

"He is so quick he is at his best played through the middle, he has been fantastic for us this season.

"He makes things happen, he chases everything and constantly gets behind defenders. England have the players to set him up, to thread the passes through for him and if they can do that for Andy he will score goals."

The former Crystal Palace striker admits he is pleased with his form this season and just hoping Steve McClaren gives him the call for the vital Group E game.

"It is great for my confidence ahead of meeting up for England," said Johnson.

"I am buzzing now, not just because it is England next but because I have scored again and Everton are going so well.

"But I'm looking forward to England, I just hope I get the nod to play."
