Everton duo fit for derby

Nuno Valente and Tim Cahill are both fit ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Everton duo Nuno Valente and Tim Cahill have both been declared fit ahead of this weekend's Merseyside derby.

Portuguese defender Valente has been absent for three weeks with a sprained knee he picked up in the FA Cup third round defeat to Blackburn whilst Cahill was withdrawn from action early during last weekend's friendly at Bournemouth.

Both are now fit however and in full training as Everton prepare for the 205th Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Right-back Tony Hibbert is also in contention after coming through the friendly match unscathed.

Everton's head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's website: "Tim is okay and he's training. Tony Hibbert came through the game okay - he was fine in the game and he's trained so he's okay.

"Nuno is training now. He passed a fitness test at the end of last week so he's okay."

Two players who will miss this weekend's clash are the attacking duo of Andy Johnson and James McFadden.

Johnson is recovering from a sprained ankle whilst Scotland international McFadden underwent an operation on a broken bone in his foot last Friday.

Rathbone added: "The operation went ever so well actually. I had the privilege - if that is the right word - of watching it."
