Wigan Athletic have sealed a swoop for Everton's Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane.

The winger has signed a three-year contract, with a further year's option, with The Latics, who have stumped up an undisclosed fee for the 29-year-old.

Kilbane, whose last Toffees appearance ended with a red card against Tottenham last weekend, expressed his happiness at moving to The JJB Stadium.

"Wigan had a terrific season last year, what they achieved was one of the stories of The Premiership," Kilbane told the club's official website.

"They are a highly ambitious club and have made some great signings over the summer.

"Paul Jewell is my type of manager because he likes to be close to the players and now I just want to join up with the rest of the squad and play my part."

The player was given leave from the Irish squad to finalise his move to Wigan, with Jewell feeling Kilbane is the ideal recruit to his ranks.

Jewell said: "I am delighted Kevin has agreed to come on board. He's another real quality acquisition for us, a highly experienced player who has seen it all at Premiership level.

"I have been a long-time admirer because he's a Wigan type of player, committed, athletic, quick and talented.

"He brings something we just haven't got at the club, a naturally left-footed attacking player.

"I have always maintained that I want at least two players for every position and Kevin will now give us a terrific option on the left hand side."

Everton signed Kilbane from Sunderland three years ago and the left-sider made 121 appearances during his time at Goodison Park.
