Everton striker James McFadden has not yet signed a new contract with the club - contrary to reports in the local media.

It had been claimed on Wednesday that the Scottish international had put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal but there are still a number of formalities to tie up before its completion.

However, a Goodison Park spokesman said the club are 'confident' McFadden's future will be resolved shortly.

Toffees manager David Moyes has been keen to secure the future of McFadden, who has just a year left to run on his existing deal, after his best season yet in Everton colours.

After a stop-start Premiership career, McFadden made 32 appearances last year, contributing seven goals.

Meanwhile, reports in the press are also claiming that Joseph Yobo is poised to at last commit his long-term future to the club.

The Nigerian international has been the subject of much speculation as a result of the player's stalling on a new contract offer.

But it now appears as though Yobo has decided that his future lies on Merseyside and he could join McFadden in penning new terms before long.
