Hatters sign Toffees kid

Stockport County have signed defender Mark Hughes on loan from Everton.

Stockport County have signed defender Mark Hughes on loan from Everton.

The 19-year-old will spend five weeks at Edgeley Park and is set for a debut against Rochdale on Tuesday.

"I got the chance to join County on Friday and I'm made up," Hughes told the club's official website.

"I'm really looking forward to my time here because I need to stop playing reserve games and start playing first team football, which I'm looking forward to.

"I trained with the lads on Monday and spoke to [manager] Jim Gannon, who appears to be a really good fella who know's what he's doing.

"He was also a defender as well," he added, "so he knows what he's talking about which can only help me."

The Hatters still prop up the entire Football League, although they have experienced a mini-revival under the recently appointed Gannon, losing just once in their last six games.
