Toffees fail in Ligue 1 raid

David Moyes has drawn a blank in his bid to bolster Everton before Tuesday.

Everton have failed twice in their attempts to raid Ligue 1 before the close of the transfer window.

David Moyes, in his search for striking reinforcements, had eyed a move for Toulouse forward Francileudo Santos, who has impressed during Tunisia's African Cup of Nations bid, but was given short shrift by the French club.

The Scot then turned his attentions to disgraced St Etienne striker Frederic Piquionne but was again unsuccessful after ASSE confirmed they are unwilling to countenance loan offers for their top scorer.

Piquionne's future at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard appears increasingly uncertain, however, after the 27-year-old assaulted one of the club's supporters last week.

Paris Saint Germain are also in the market for Piquionne but PSG chairman Pierre Blayau's confirmation that his club are eyeing a loan transfer leaves any potential deal in doubt.

"There will be no other arrivals, except a last minute opportunity. That opportunity could be a loan for Frederic Piquionne," said Blayau.
