Stubbs brushes off rumours

Sunderland defender Alan Stubbs has hit out at rumours he wants to move back to Everton.

Sunderland defender Alan Stubbs has rubbished rumours he is trying to secure a move back to Everton.

Stubbs quit Goodison Park in the summer to join promoted Sunderland, but finds the club bottom of The Premiership.

The 34-year-old returned to Everton last weekend to watch his old club play Bolton Wanderers in the league.

His appearance at the game sparked speculation that the centre half is hoping to rejoin The Toffees when the transfer window opens again next month.

But Stubbs, who has missed the last month due to a groin injury, has brushed off reports he wants to leave Sunderland.

"I don't know where they have come from," Stubbs told the club's official website. "There's nothing in it - end of story.

"I sometimes feel if you start answering these stories it gives them credit. It's better to ignore them.

"Yes I was at Goodison Park last weekend, watching a team I have supported since I was six-years-old. I was with my little girl who is an Everton fan.

"I don't feel I need to answer questions about taking my little boy or little girl to watch a team they support."
