Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright is determined to prove he should be between the posts at Goodison Park.

Veteran stopper Nigel Martyn has been in impressive form for The Toffees, but is likely to miss the next two matches with a groin injury.

And Wright, who made his first Premiership appearance as a substitute for Martyn against Blackburn, is desperate to seize his opportunity and cement his place in the side.

"I have waited a long time for this and I want to keep the jersey," he insisted.

"Not playing has been so frustrating. It's bad news for Nigel but this is my chance. That's football."

The 28-year-old was once a regular in the England squad and touted as the country's future number one, but has seen his career stall in the last couple of years at Everton.
