According to sources in France, Everton were interested in signing Sidney Govou but their failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League has scuppered any bid.
The Toffees have been working hard to strengthen their squad with David Moyes mainly looking towards Serie A for new recruits.
However, the Scot has also been keeping tabs on the situation in France's Ligue 1 and is an admirer of the é¼15 million-rated forward.
Lyon are prepared to allow Govou to leave for that fee but interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Spain and Italy has cooled due to the size of the asking price.
Everton were exploring the possibility of making an offer for the winger but their exit to Villarreal looks to have put paid to any hopes Moyes may have had of luring the player to Goodison Park.
