Everton boss David Moyes is facing a left back crisis after reports that Gary Naysmith could miss the first month of the new Premiership season.

The Scottish international has not yet recovered from a foot operation in May and could also leave The Toffees short as they begin their inaugural UEFA Champions League campaign.

After releasing Alessandro Pistone, Moyes is currently facing the prospect of utilising Kevin Kilbane as a makeshift full back.

Everton are also yet to tie up a deal for Valencia's Emiliano Moretti and the absence of 26-year-old Naysmith could hamper Moyes's chances of following up last season's heroics.

However Everton have been handed a boost with the news that Chinese midfielder Li Tie has made a successful return from a long term injury.

The 27-year-old had been out for 18 months, although after completing his recuperation from the shin injury Tie made his comeback in Everton's 9-0 pre-season victory over Austrian outfit FC Gamlitz.
