James Beattie has stated he has not found the form he envisaged following his £6 million move to Everton in January.

The former Southampton striker had hoped to progress to the next level on Merseyside, however injury and suspension has hampered his progress.

Beattie is critical of his own performances and realises he has not been up to scratch, but is predicting better showings for Everton next term.

The 27-year-old has just two goals for Everton while his red card for head-butting William Gallas saw him miss a huge slice of action with a three-game ban.

"There's nobody more disappointed with the start of my Everton career than myself," said Beattie.

"I'm a big self-critic and I know there are better times to come.

"I'm fit now, but obviously with injuries and suspension it hasn't been the start with Everton that I would have wanted.

"I haven't played many games since I signed and it's probably going to be next season before the fans see me at my best."
