Everton have confirmed that Joseph Yobo missed the draw with Aston Villa because of a head injury.

There were rumours of disharmony in the Everton dressing room when Yobo failed to appear in the team on Saturday, with the Nigerian expected to come in for the suspended Lee Carsley.

However, The Toffees have now revealed that Yobo suffered a head injury in training, which meant he was unable to play against Villa.

"Joseph had an accidental clash of heads in training on Friday morning and had six stitches applied by the club doctor soon afterwards," said Everton physio Mick Rathbone.

"On the day of the game he was suffering a headache and felt extremely groggy.  However, the doctor has been to see him and he appears to be fine."
