Moyes impressed by Wright

David Moyes has been impressed by Richard Wright's application.

Everton manager David Moyes has been impressed by Richard Wright's application despite falling to number two at the club to Nigel Martyn.

Moyes brought in Martyn after Wright sustained an injury and superb form by the former Leeds United keeper has ensured he has remained the club's number one.

Wright was handed a rare chance to impress against Bristol City in the Carling Cup in midweek and his display showed Moyes he is ready when needed.

Moyes is likely to restore Martyn between the sticks when The Toffees tackle Portsmouth on Sunday, although Wright is also at the forefront of his mind.

"Richard is one of the top three or four English goalkeepers in The Premiership and should be picked for most England squads," said Moyes.

"Obviously, that can't happen for him if he's not playing club football and he has had a difficult time having to wait for a chance.

"He knows the situation. He got injured and because of that I had to get another goalkeeper in - and Nigel took his chance.

"But Richard's attitude has been first class and I've not had to do very much at all to keep him going.

"He has conducted himself really well and he proved to me at Bristol he will be ready when he is needed again."
