The former Arsenal and Ipswich ace has been missing for the last six weeks with a knee problem.
Wright played the full 90 minutes of Wednesday's 1-1 reserves draw with Birmingham and he is eyeing a recall against Aston Villa on Saturday.
"It was good to get back with 90 minutes and it is important now that I challenge to get my place back in the first team," said Wright.
"Hopefully I can be involved at Aston Villa on Saturday."
