EVERTON keeper Richard Wright has risked controversy by rescheduling his daughter's birth to ensure his availability for the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Sunday.

The England international's wife gave birth to daughter Bo a week in advance of the planned date after being induced.

"The baby was due next weekend at the same time as the derby match so the birth was induced to allow Richard to play," explained Toffees manager David Moyes.

"Richard is delighted, and wife and baby are doing fine."

Some childbirth experts have already criticised Wright, claiming that the child should have been allowed to enter the world naturally.
