Aaron Ramsey insists Arsenal are 'really close' to winning the Premier League

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey insists the current squad has the "capabilities" to challenge for the Premier League title.

It has been an inconsistent season for both Ramsey and Arsenal, after a disappointing start to the campaign saw Chelsea run away with the league.

But an impressive run in 2015 that has seen them lose just two of their 18 home games has meant Arsenal secured third spot and that all-important Champions League place.

Ahead of their final game against West Brom, Ramsey told Gillette Soccer Special the current squad is good enough and they feel like they're edging closer to their first title since 2003/04.

"We were a bit inconsistent the first half of the season, and we couldn’t put a run together," said Ramsey.

"In the second half we’ve done really well and that’s been really positive. That’s something that we can finish off on and go into the FA Cup and hopefully win that again and go into next season.

"I think maybe injuries had an influence [at the start of the season], new players coming in, and maybe the team wasn’t quite settled. We couldn’t find that consistency we were looking for and ultimately we paid the price because Chelsea did it throughout the season. They deserve it.

"If we had our second-half form in the first half of the season, we would have had a great opportunity, and that’s our aim to go on and win the Premier League because we feel we’re really close and we have the capabilities."

Once again Ramsey was one of the Arsenal players blighted by injury, and the apparent fragile nature of the squad is something he is aware of.

He added: "Hopefully next year I can stay injury free and fit throughout the season. Last season my injury came in three months out so it wasn’t disruptive like this season which has disrupted my flow. I’ve got into double figures again for goals and chucked in a few assists."

As for the player himself, he feels he's had a good season which will finish perfectly if he can help Arsenal lift the FA Cup for the second season in a row.

"It would be a dream come true, and an amazing achievement for me personally. It would cap of a good season and be one to remember."
