Belgian club Zulte Waregem have announced the signing of midfielder Chuks Aneke on a three-year contract following his release by Arsenal at the end of last season.

Aneke had spent the majority of the past two seasons on loan at Crewe Alexandra and scored 16 goals in all competitions for the League One club last term.

Crewe had been interested in a permanent deal for the 20-year-old, while several Championship clubs, including Leeds United, were understood to have been keen.

However, Aneke has opted to move to Zulte, who finished fourth in the league last season and have qualified for the Europa League.

“This is a great opportunity for me and I will do my best to take it as soon as possible,” Aneke told Zulte’s official website.

“I think Belgian football will suit my playing style.

“Zulte Waregem give opportunities to young players and this club, after some good conversations, was a logical choice for my future development.”

Aneke’s signing will help Zulte to offset the loss of Thorgan Hazard, who is returning to Chelsea to join up with his brother Eden after spending last season on loan with Essevee.

In addition to signing Aneke, Zulte also confirmed the arrival of defender Sefa Isci on a three-year contract from Anderlecht.
