Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes Aaron Ramsey has the all-round ability to become as influential as Liverpool veteran Steven Gerrard.
Ramsey is nearing a return to action having spent the last three months on the sidelines nursing a thigh injury - and Parlour is adamant the 23-year-old's career will blossom again.
The Wales captain struck 13 goals earlier in the campaign and spearheaded a fantastic early-season surge from the Gunners, but unlike many goalscoring midfielders he has also earned praise for his attitude to defending.
Parlour wrote on his Sportlobster blog: "Without doubt, Aaron Ramsey can become as influential as Steven Gerrard. Ramsey needs to believe in his own abilities.
"He is a young and exciting talent and will definitely be a top, top player in the future. He wants to learn and is blessed with the ideal attributes for a midfield player."
Parlour added: "Gerrard was the best player I have ever faced. I think he is absolutely world class. He isn't as effective box-to-box as he was a few years ago, but he continues to make the difference.
"Ramsey was the perfect box-to-box midfielder in the first half of the season and I always said if he could score a few more, he would be complete."
Earlier in the week, Ramsey joined midfield colleagues Santi Cazorla and Gedion Zelalem in signing contract extensions at Emirates Stadium.
