Jack Wilshere believes added competition for midfield berths at Arsenal is helping to keep players on their toes.
Wilshere has only recently returned to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Frustratingly, the 20-year-old is now serving a ban for a red card he picked up during a Premier League clash with Manchester United, but he is delighted to be back in the picture.
He is challenging the likes of Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey and Abou Diaby for starting roles and feels another injection of quality over the summer has left Arsene Wenger selecting from an enviable pool of creative and ball-winning talent.
"You can see that there is great competition now throughout midfield," Wilshere told Arsenal's official website.
"That is what players need - if you are guaranteed a place every week maybe you can just go easy, but with the competition we have at Arsenal in midfield, it is good for everybody.
"I am excited about playing with all of them, and you can see already that we are gelling.
"A couple of months ago none of the new boys even knew each other or the rest of the squad, but good players just fit in - for example with Santi Cazorla, you can tell he is just a natural footballer.
"The manager has proved in the past that he signs talented players and this is the case again."
