Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has suffered a new injury setback and is expected to be out for three months.
The Poland international has only recently returned to fitness following a shoulder problem but ruptured ankle ligaments during training on Thursday.
He was immediately sent to see a specialist where it was decided that he needs surgery to rectify the problem and is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The news will come as a huge blow to Fabianski, who is missing an opportunity for an extended run in the first-team in the absence of compatriot Wojciech Szczesny.
The regular first-choice Arsenal goalkeeper has been missing since mid-September with an ankle problem but is expected back in two weeks.
That has left Vito Mannone as Arsenal's only fit senior goalkeeper, with youngsters Damien Martinez and James Shea providing cover on the bench for the last six matches.
