Sochaux playmaker seeking summer switch

Marvin Martin admits the time has come for him to leave Sochaux, with a disappointing campaign pushing him towards the exits. The 24-year-old earned plenty of plaudits last season as he helped his current employers to a lofty finish in Ligue 1 and a place in the Europa League. His efforts were rewarded with a call-up to the France national side and Europe's top clubs began to sit up and take notice - with Arsenal among those reported to be closely monitoring his situation. The 2011/12 season has not gone entirely to plan, though, with Sochaux having suffered a dramatic fall from grace that sees them sat inside the relegation zone. Martin feels the club have been punished for a lack of ambition and has revealed that he will be looking to move on when the summer transfer window opens.

Regrets

"We have regrets because we all worked so hard last season to finish in fifth place, and our current situation is such a shame," he told L'Equipe. "We would have appreciated more ambition from everyone. We knew we would be playing in the Europa League and we should have been aiming higher. "Should we have signed more players? Yes. We wanted to play in the Europa League, but last summer we lost a lot of players. "Even though it has been a very difficult season it does help you to improve, especially mentally. "Last year I wanted to remain in France. This year, I am keen to leave and move abroad."
