Swiss ace to pen contract extension with Gunners

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has expressed a desire to remain at the club for as long as possible. The 25-year-old Switzerland international has struggled to stamp down a regular place in the Arsenal back four in recent seasons, but appears very much part of manager Arsene Wenger's long-term plans. Djourou joined the Arsenal academy back in 2003 and has since notched up 30 caps with the Switzerland national team. The Swiss Football Association have posted an article announcing Djourou has agreed a contract extension, and it is understood Arsenal will confirm the news. Djourou, who posted a link to the story via his Twitter account, said on www.football.ch: "I like this club and I want to stay here as long as possible. "I currently work in the background, waiting for another chance to show my potential. I have confidence in the future."
