Emmanuel Frimpong: Will be missed at Molineux following injury blow

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has expressed his disappointment at losing on-loan midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong through injury.

The 20-year-old returned to Arsenal to undergo rehabilitation after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury on Saturday.

Ghana-born Frimpong, who has represented England at age group level, was making only his fifth Wolves appearance against Queens Park Rangers when he was forced out of action.

Frimpong had made a good impression in his short time at Molineux and boss McCarthy admits he will be missed but hopes he will make a strong recovery.

Disappointing

"It's obviously very disappointing for us but even more so for Manny who faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines," he told the club's official website.

"He'd made a good impression in the first month of his loan and we were looking forward to having him with us for the rest of the season.

"He's a very good player, and we were grateful to Arsenal for allowing us to have him as he continues his development."

The injury looks set to have ended Frimpong's season but McCarthy is thankful for the contribution he made to the club and is positive the loanee's departure will pave the way for someone else to establish a place in the team.

He added: "I have spoken to Arsene Wenger and thanked him for letting us have him and I know our fans enjoyed watching him play.

"As ever we just have to get on with it now and someone else will get a chance to stake their claim in the team.

"All of us at Wolves would like to thank Manny for his contribution and wish him the very best for his recovery."
