Defender happy to have opportunity to play in Arsenal's first team

Arsenal teenager Ignasi Miquel is waiting to see if he is required for further first-team duty or will be allowed to go out on loan to the Championship. Miquel has made eight appearances for the Gunners this season in all competitions and has largely been used in a left-back role. Injuries to all of Arsenal's recognised full-backs have prompted Arsene Wenger to use players out of position and call on the rookie members of his squad. Wenger has admitted that he is looking at signing a new left-back in the transfer window and Miquel feels that will impact on his immediate future at Emirates Stadium. "Before the injuries, I had in my head to go on loan to the Championship but now with this I've not spoken to anyone," said Miquel. "If they can sign someone or Kieran Gibbs comes back, we'll see if I stay here or go on loan."

Focused

The 19-year-old is becoming accustomed to playing at left-back again and is happy to have been given the chance to play in the first team. He added on Arsenal Player: "In the last two or three years I have been playing at centre-back so it's quite hard for me to get back to left-back. "But to be fair I used to play there and you more or less try to remember what you can from when you were younger. "Once you get there training and playing a couple of games, it is just another position. I think it's a position I'm going to learn much more in so I just have to try and keep focused anytime I play. "I think I have had a lot of opportunities this season, unfortunately because there were a lot of injuries, but overall I am happy to be getting minutes for the first team in the Premier League and the Champions League."
