Gunners boss has no plans to return for Trotters centre-half

Arsene Wenger claims to have ended his interest in Gary Cahill, with there no plans for Arsenal to return for the Bolton defender in January. The Gunners spent much of the summer courting the England international, with Wenger having made the acquisition of a proven centre-half a top priority. In the end he was forced to turn his attention elsewhere as his advances were snubbed on numerous occasions. The French tactician admits to still being an admirer of Cahill, but insists he has no intention of testing Bolton's resolve during the winter transfer window. "Cahill is good enough to play Champions League, but he is not someone I would be interested in," said Wenger. "I have got five central defenders - [Laurent] Koscielny, [Sebastien] Squillaci, Mertesacker, [Thomas] Vermaelen and [Johan] Djourou. Of this five, four are international players. "We were in the market in the summer, but at that time they [Bolton] were greedy."

Injuries

Wenger is hoping January will prove to be a quiet month for all concerned at the Emirates, with it his opinion that he has a strong enough squad to take Arsenal forward. He said: "In football you rule very few things out, because it depends if you have seven injuries until January. "However, at the moment we have a big enough squad to cope."
