New boy hopes to regain title and write name in Celtic folklore

New Celtic midfielder Zheng Zhi is determined to help bring the Scottish title back to Parkhead this season. Bitter rivals Rangers won the Scottish Premier League crown for the first time in four years last term and Celtic boosted their squad for the current campaign with the signing of the China international. The 29-year-old joined on a free transfer after leaving Charlton following their relegation to League One and made his debut in the first Old Firm derby of the season last week. Zhi was unable to make a winning start as Rangers claimed a 2-1 victory but he endeared himself to his new club's fans with a promising performance.

Long history

The Bhoys remain top of the table after seven games, though, and Zhi hopes to write his name into club folklore by helping Celtic to a 43rd league championship. "I hope that I can be a successful player here and win the league this season," he told the club's official website. "I know that Celtic has a long history and lots of supporters, and I hope that when I leave I have a good name at the club, and among the supporters and that people remember me." Zhi played in an advanced role against Rangers behind Scott McDonald and will offer manager Tony Mowbray some versatility up front. "I can play as a second striker, but I can also play in the centre of midfield," Zhi added. "Where I play is really up to the manager and he was the main reason that I joined Celtic. "I hope that we can work well together and have a good relationship. It has been very good so far."
