Roma captain Francesco Totti is facing up to two months on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
Totti was forced off in the 31st minute of Sunday's Serie A clash with Catania and Luciano Spalletti's side slipped to a 3-2 defeat in his absence.
The former Italy international is now expected to miss up to nine Serie A fixtures and is a doubt for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 meeting with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on 24th February.
Meanwhile, the head of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has admitted that the door is open for the 32-year-old playmaker to return to the international scene before the 2010 World Cup.
Giancarlo Abete told Sky Italia: "Totti is a great player and he's the right age to play at the 2010 World Cup.
"Naturally he has to find an agreement with the coach (Marcello Lippi), with whom he has a great relationship."
