Arsenal cool Roeder talk

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rejected reports with regards Glenn Roeder.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has rejected reports that have suggested Glenn Roeder is to be appointed as the club's director of football.

Wenger is known to be drawing up a list of candidates for the position and the latest round of speculation has intimated Roeder is the front runner for the post.

Former Newcastle boss Roeder is eager to return to football after being shown the St James' Park exit door last season but while Wenger insists he is an admirer, no deal has been done as yet.

"I like Glenn Roeder, but I've not met with him," he said.

"At the moment I've not decided to appoint him. He would feature on a list of candidates, though."

Meanwhile, the French tactician has confirmed that Jose Antonio Reyes will definitely not be returning to North London.

The Spain international spent last season on-loan at Real Madrid and while his future remains the subject of conjecture, Wenger is hopeful that there will be a positive outcome to the situation before too long.

"We will make an announcement shortly, but he will not come back here," Wenger added.

"I cannot tell you more than that at the moment."

It has been reported in Spain that a deal has been struck with Atletico Madrid and that the player could make the move on Monday.
