Middlesbrough have confirmed that they have paid a £2million fee to land Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere.

The 24-year-old Frenchman has concurred on a four-year deal after undergoing a successful medical at The Riverside.

Aliadiere becomes Middlesbrough's second signing of the pre-season following Jonathan Woodgate's permanent arrival from Real Madrid in a £7million deal.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate has high hopes for a player who showed promise but failed to ever establish himself in North London, with Aliadiere charged with the task of filling the sizeable goalscoring void left by Mark Viduka's switch to Newcastle.

It is expected that Middlesbrough could follow up the capture of Aliadiere by wrapping up a deal for fellow striker Tuncay Sanli, with the Turkey international on the cusp of securing his move to the North East.
