Gilberto: We must beat Reds

Gilberto feels Arsenal must beat Liverpool on Sunday to stay in the title race.

Gilberto feels Arsenal must beat Liverpool on Sunday to stay in the Premiership title race.

Last week's defeat at West Ham United left The Gunners 10 points behind leaders Manchester United, although they do have a game in hand.

But, by the time Arsenal welcome Liverpool to Emirates Stadium, the gap could be 13 points if United win at Blackburn Rovers.

With Liverpool a further point adrift, Gilberto is aware of the significance of Sunday's outcome, live on Sky Sports 1.

The Brazilian midfielder admits The Gunners can write off their title aspirations, if they fail to beat The Reds.

"If we want to fight for the title then we must win this game," Gilberto told the club's official website.

"This season we have dropped many points already, that is why we are so far from the leaders.

"But we know we want to fight for the title and that is why this is a crucial moment for us."

With many visitors to North London this season operating defensively, Gilberto is hoping the Liverpool game will be more suitable for Arsenal.

He added: "I think it is much better, not easier, but better when we play against a team like Liverpool because they will not sit back just to defend.

"They will come out and want to play - they want to win. But, at the same time, we are confident for this game."
