Derby County have snapped up Matt Oakley and Ryan Smith, but will not be increasing their bid for Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood.

Oakley has signed a three-year contract at Pride Park after rejecting the offer of a 12-month deal to stay at Southampton.

He will come up against his former club on Sunday, while teenage winger Smith has also secured a three-year deal after joining from Arsenal.

Rams boss Billy Davies was delighted to bring in the duo, with Oakley having also attracted interest from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town.

"Matt Oakley is a tremendous signing for us, who has vast experience from a long time at Southampton where he was a former club captain, and played a huge amount of games in The Premiership," Davies told the club's official website.

"He is a great addition and at the age he is we feel his best years are just around the corner - hopefully with Derby County.

"I have been chasing Ryan for a few days because of his great potential, his pace and wonderful left foot.

"We are delighted to have signed both players."

But one player unlikely to link up with The Rams is Eastwood as Davies insists he will not budge on his valuation of the Southend hot shot.

Davies added on Sky Sports News: "I think the offer we made was as much as we're going to go to.

"We made a great offer in our opinion, but obviously it's down to the club to accept it or not.

"That's their prerogative, but the offer is where we think it should be."
