Arsenal have refuted Philippe Christanval's claims that Sol Campbell wants to leave.Arsenal have refuted Philippe Christanval's claims that Sol Campbell has asked to leave Highbury.
French defender Christanval revealed earlier this week that Campbell was aiming to quit the FA Cup winners.
Christanval trained with The Gunners during pre-season and suggested the only reason why he failed to earn a contract was due to manager Arsene Wenger needing to offload a central defender.
The former Marseille stopper then hinted a deal could materialise once Arsenal had received an offer for Campbell.
But Arsenal have denied Christanval's claims and insist Campbell is still an integral part of Wenger's plans.
"In the light of media reports this morning, Arsenal Football Club have released the following statement," said the club on their official website.
"Reports today stating that Sol Campbell has asked to leave the club are mischievous.
"Sol has not requested a move away from Arsenal and, as Arsene Wenger stated only recently, Sol is part of his plans.
"Sol's focus right now is to get back to full fitness and help the team compete for silverware this season."
Campbell has not played for Arsenal this season due to injury and was only on the substitutes' bench for last term's FA Cup final.
He joined the club on a controversial free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur four years ago and has made almost 170 appearances for Arsenal.
