Song signs on for Gunners

Arsenal have wrapped up a loan deal for Bastia starlet Alexandre Song.

Arsenal have continued their commitment to recruiting the continent's best talent by wrapping up a loan deal for Bastia's Alexandre Song.

The 18-year-old has impressed boss Arsene Wenger whilst on trial at Highbury over the summer, and has now been handed an extended chance to prove his credentials with the FA Cup winners.

Song appeared in The Gunners' pre-season tour to Austria and leaves Bastia after they suffered relegation from Le Championnat last season.

The versatile stopper will initially join on a one year loan deal, worth a rumoured ‚é¼500,000 (£344,000), although Wenger will have the opportunity to make the arrangement permanent for ‚é¼4 million (£2.7 million) at the end of the season after the Corsican club confirmed an accord had been reached.

After announcing himself as one of the foremost talents in Ligue 1 Song has attracted interest from the likes of Lyon and Internazionale, however he will now be hoping to be the latest import from France to thrive under Wenger's astute guidance.

With developing talents Philippe Senderos and Kolo Toure both impressing in defensive roles, Song's capture could be Wenger's first market move to compensate for the departure of Patrick Vieira.
