Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock is hoping to take former Arsenal centre back Frankie Simek on their pre-season tour of Scotland.

The American youth international appeared for The Owls in their pre-season friendly at Grimsby Town on Monday, as the defender looks for a new club following his release from The Gunners at the season's end.

The 20-year-old had loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and Bournemouth last season and Sturrock is hoping to have a closer look at the highly-rated North American.

"We're in negotiations with Frankie's agent about him travelling to Scotland," Sturrock told the club's official website.

"He came recommended and we watched him playing for Bournemouth at the end of last season.

"I'd like to see him in a couple more games."

One player that has not impressed Sturrock is former Millwall midfielder Anton Robinson.

"He was no better than the standard we have," added the Scot.
