Julio Baptista's agent has claimed he has spoken to Barcelona about a possible move for the Brazilian.

The 23-year-old seems set to leave Sevilla after rejecting the club's offer of a new deal.

Arsenal have expressed an interest in the powerful striker and had one bid rejected by Sevilla.

Another English club, believed to be Tottenham, have also registered their interest in Baptista and matched Arsenal's bid for the player.

Baptista appeared to rule out a move to England this week by claiming he would stay in Spain so that he could gain dual nationality and therefore win a European passport.

Barcelona have held a long-term interest in Baptista and the South American's representative Herminio Menendez claims he has had discussions with the Spanish champions regarding Baptista.

"We have had dealings with Barca over Baptista," Menendez told COM Radio.

"He has a contract with Sevilla at the moment but the new one they are offering is not satisfactory for us.

"He will continue to see out his contract with Sevilla until he receives an offer which is good for him and the club.

"We have talked with Barca but nothing has been closed with them or any other side."
