Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly facing a battle to convince Jose Antonio Reyes to stay at Highbury.

The 21-year-old burst into The Premiership last season after a £17 million move from Sevilla but has failed to reproduce such scintillating form this term.

Reyes was left out of The Gunners' midweek defeat to Manchester United following reports that he has become homesick for Spain.

The player's recent woes were compounded on Friday when the talented starlet was axed from Spain's squad to face San Marino next week.

Wenger has conceded that the player did have a problem before the turn of the year but remains adamant that Reyes will stay in North London.

However, speculation continues to suggest that Arsenal will be in the market for a striker in the summer, with the future of Reyes seemingly uncertain.

''He had some problems that I don't deny before Christmas but since then he has been in perfect shape,'' said Wenger.

''I opted not to put him in against Manchester United because I wanted to put out a very experienced team.

''But he is perfect at the moment."
