ARSENAL almost completed the signing of Turkish midfield star Emre last year, but Internazionale pulled the plug on the deal.

The Gunners have a long-standing interest in the outstanding Turk and they attempted to seal a deal for him last summer following the World Cup finals.

Emre's representatives met with Arsenal and talks were at an advanced stage, but Inter pulled the plug after thinking over the deal.

Talking exclusively to planetfootball.com Emre's agent Ahmet Bulut confirmed that his client almost moved to Highbury.

"Emre almost joined Arsenal that is true," Bulut confirmed.

"We met with Arsenal twice and we talked with Mr Wenger.

"Talks went well, but then Inter decided to keep him.

"He has since done very well for Inter and they have no intention of selling him and Emre is very happy with his current situation."

Arsene Wenger confirmed just before the World Cup that Emre was on his wanted list, but the move failed and he signed Brazilian star Gilberto Silva instead.

Wenger is still keeping tabs on Emre and is likely to be at the front of the queue to sign him, should his situation at Giuseppe Meazza change.
