Sinclair makes losing start

TREVOR SINCLAIR made a losing start to his Manchester City debut as his side lost 1-0 to Odense on Tuesday night.

The £2.5 million summer signing from West Ham made his City debut as a second-half substitute but could not halt Kevin Keegan's men's second defeat on the spin after Saturday's reverse to Mansfield.

The Danes were participating in their final pre-season game before restarting their domestic championship on Sunday and secured the win thanks to Mwape Miti's bundled effort with 15 minutes remaining.

Aston Villa ran rampant as they saw off TPS Turku 3-0 thanks to a Juan Pablo Angel brace and a single goal from Darius Vassell.

The win should have been more emphatic as both the Colombian and England forwards missed penalties and failed to add to The Villans tally.

Tottenham Hotspur continued their good early pre-season form with yet another win, this time over First Division Norwich City at Carrow Road.

A superb 30 yard right foot curler from Portsmouth target Darren Anderton on the half-hour mark gave Spurs the lead before Welsh international Simon Davies scored his second goal in two games after exchanging passes with Bobby Zamora.

The new £1.5 million signing from Brighton then pounced himself to make it three.

Everton went down 2-0 to new Division One arrivals Crewe Alexandra at Gretsy Road.

Dean Ashton gave Alex the lead before substitute Ben Rix stunned The Toffees when he doubled the lead seconds after the restart.

Charlton Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw as they faced Colchester United at Layer Road.

The U's took an early lead when Tony Boot rose to meet a Karl Duguid free kick in only the seventh minute, before Finnish striker Jonathan Johansson levelled matters just four minutes later.

Arsenal begun their tour of Austria with a 2-2 draw against SK Ritzing.

The Gunners found themselves 2-0 down before French defender Pascal Cygan and Freddie Ljungberg, from the penalty spot, scored  to make sure honours were even for the North London side.

Portsmouth had their shooting boots on as they beat Havant & Waterlooville 6-0.

Scottish striker Mark Burchill grabbed a first-half hat trick and Chris Clark gave Pompey a 4-0 to take into the interval before Rowan Vine and Clark again finished the rout.
