QUEENS PARK RANGERS midfielder Matthew Rose has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

It is a boost for manager Ian Holloway as the former Arsenal player would have been able to leave on a Bosman free-transfer had talks with chairman Nick Blackburn not been successful.

"This is really excellent news. I think Matthew had a fantastic season last year, probably his best in a QPR shirt and I enjoyed working with him," said Holloway.

"He was outstanding in midfield last year but he is useful in several positions.

He added: "I like to think he can still improve and he is a vital part of our squad."

Rose impressed last season in midfield, scoring three goals in 39 appearances for the Hoops.

Rangers have also negotiated a year's extension to the contract of Terrell Forbes, the club's Player of the Year.

Holloway said of the 20-year-old defender: "The lad can really play and he can only get better and better."

The club are also confident young striker Dennis Oli will sign a two-year contract this week.
