The 37-year-old will be boosted by the news that he will get the nod over the new £6 million arrival.
"There will be fair competition between the two, although at the start of the season there is maybe a slight advantage for Seaman," said Wenger.
"But I think it is down to Richard Wright to show he can take over and I have told him that he will play matches."
Both keepers are eager to gain a regular starting spot, as both are fighting for a place in Sven Goran Eriksson`s England squad, as the build up to the World Cup in 2002 continues at a pace next season.
