NEWCASTLE'S DYER FIGHT - CARR HINTS AT EXIT

NEWCASTLE have reportedly placed a staggering £22 million price-tag on star midfielder Kieron Dyer.

The England international has been linked with big-money moves to Premiership sides Leeds United and Manchester United in recent months after another trophy-less season with The Magpies.

However Newcastle boss Bobby Robson has always maintained that he wanted to keep the former Ipswich player and would be reluctant to sell the 22-year-old to Premiership rivals.

Internazionale are rumoured to have lodged a £20 million bid for the pacy midfielder as they look to mount a serious campaign for the Scudetto next term.

Another Premiership star reportedly on the wish-list of the San Siro giants is Tottenham Hotspur wing back Stephen Carr.

The Republic of Ireland international is keen to win prizes sooner rather than later and hinted that he may be ready to leave Spurs to do so.

"I have always said that my ambition in the game is to win medals. Players have to move around to realise their ambitions these days," revealed Carr.

The 24-year-old defender also backed Sol Campbell's decision to leave White Hart Lane even if his destination was fierce rivals Arsenal.

"If I was him, I would have left as well and I wish him all the best at Highbury.

"Obviously a lot of supporters will feel he has kicked them in the teeth. But what is wrong with him being selfish?" added the Spurs man.

Meanwhile, media reports are also suggesting that Lazio and Chile target-man Marcelo Salas could be on his way to St James' Park.

However, Bobby Robson seems to have sufficient strength in depth up-front with new signing Craig Bellamy, Carl Cort and Alan Shearer all vying for a place in the starting line-up.

On top of this Salas has stated in the past that he would only consider a move to Manchester United or London should he decide to move to The Premiership.
