BIRMINGHAM CITY defender Darren Purse has indicated that he is keen to open talks about a new deal to stay at St Andrews.

The 24-year-old ace has been instrumental in The Blues` success this season, scoring the equalising goal in the Worthington Cup final with Liverpool in February, a game the Midlands outfit lost on penalties.

The former Leyton Orient and Oxford man has attracted interest from Arsenal, who are rumoured to be lining him up as a possible replacement for Tony Adams as they try to rebuild their ageing defence.

"I am very happy at St Andrews and I would love to renegotiate my contract if the board are willing," Purse revealed.

Blues boss Trevor Francis will be keen to hang on to one of his most prized assets but he will face a fight if the Midlands club do not finally win promotion to The Premiership this season.
