Simon Mignolet says Liverpool will not dwell on Manchester United defeat

Simon Mignolet insists Liverpool will not dwell on Sunday's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United and believes the race for the top four is still on.

Juan Mata's two goals at Anfield put United five points clear of their rivals with eight Premier League games to go, with a tough trip to Arsenal to come for Liverpool after the international break.

But goalkeeper Mignolet, who is with Belgium ahead of European qualifiers against Cyprus and Israel, says Brendan Rodgers will ensure the squad will continue to look ahead with confidence.

"It was disappointing to lose but I'm focused on the two games with Belgium and after that we have another big game away to Arsenal which is going to be massive in the race for the Champions League," he told Sky Sports News HQ

"First comes first, the focus is on the two games with Belgium and then we go back to England and we will prepare ourselves as best we can for Arsenal.

"We have to look forward. We'll make sure that we do the things we do, there is still a lot to play for, we've got the FA Cup too so hopefully we can do well on both sides."

Two players not on international duty are Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana, who are back at the Reds' Melwood training ground after injury forced them to withdraw from the England squad for the European qualifier against Lithuania and friendly in Italy.

Lallana didn't report for duty after coming off with a groin injury at half-time on Sunday, while Sturridge was sent back to his club after a scan at St George's Park revealed a hip problem.

The pair will be monitored over the next week but neither player is believed to be seriously injured and are hopeful of being fit for the trip to the Emirates on April 4.
