Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has returned to training and could feature in the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday.

The 30-year-old sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Spain earlier this month and missed the Reds' games against Reading last weekend and Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday.

However, Reina trained with the rest of the Liverpool squad at Melwood on Friday and could take to the pitch at Goodison Park against Everton in the Premier League.

"Pepe is back in training," said Rodgers. "So that's good news. He's working well and we'll assess him over the next 24-48 hours."

Rodgers was also quick to praise Reina's replacement between the posts Brad Jones.

"Brad's been excellent," he said. "The goalkeepers join in a lot of our work in training. They get involved in a lot of the possession work. Brad's temperament has been excellent. I think he has come in and looked a real presence in the goal.

"The nature of his game has been good and when he has been asked to make a save he has.

"So I've been really pleased with Brad since he has come in and played a number of our Europa League games and done very well.

"You need that competition with goalkeepers."
