Andy Carroll: Having a medical at West Ham ahead of a loan switch
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Andy Carroll is on the brink of joining West Ham on loan subject to medical.
As Sky Sports revealed on Thursday afternoon, Carroll had changed his mind about a switch to Upton Park and the deal is set to be completed before Friday's transfer deadline.
There is no permanent deal in place with the Hammers but the 23-year-old England striker has been forced to accept he is not in Rodgers' plans at Anfield.
The new Liverpool boss admits he was only planning to use Carroll as a cover player and that this was an awkward position for a player brought to the club for £35million just last year.
"Andy is at West Ham, going through a medical there," said Rodgers.
"It is very simple - the club have made a monumental investment in big Andy. At the moment he is not playing.
"He made it very clear he wanted to play games and this is his last chance to do that."
"You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy has been a cover player for us and has been excellent in terms of his attitude and acceptance of where he is at.
"But I don't think we are in a position to have £35m players as third-choice strikers, or wingers who are on £5m-£6m a year."
