Liverpool striker Andy Carroll will miss Thursday's UEFA Europa League third-round qualifier against FC Gomel with a groin strain.

Carroll, who faces an uncertain future at Anfield after being linked with a move away this summer, has not made the trip to Belarus.

The England international's former club Newcastle, who sold him to Liverpool for £35million 18 months ago, have been linked with his signature, while West Ham are also thought to be interested.

New signing Fabio Borini could participate on Thursday, while Luis Suarez and Craig Bellamy are on Olympic duty.

Liverpool squad: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Spearing, Gerrard, Shelvey, Henderson, Downing, Borini, Doni, Kelly, Flanagan, Sterling.
