Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is in no doubt about Robbie Fowler's ability ahead of the striker's shock return to English football.
The former Liverpool and England forward has been training with Blackpool with a view to
signing a permanent deal until the end of the season.
Holloway's interest in 35-year-old Fowler, who most recently has been playing in Australia and Thailand, has come as somewhat of a shock.
But Holloway thinks the Kop idol has all the characteristics to help in Blackpool's push for promotion back to the Premier League.
"It's brilliant to have someone like Robbie at the club," said Holloway in the
Blackpool Gazette.
"He looked terrific in training and I don't think he's that far away from being fully fit."
Undoubted quality
Blackpool's
official website also quoted Holloway as saying: "Has he got some quality, can he play a pass, can he score a goal? Yes, he can.
"I still think he wants to play and he's got undoubted quality."
Blackpool have already confirmed Fowler will not be available for Friday's game against Hull City at Bloomfield Road if he does sign a contract.
The former Leeds, Cardiff and Blackburn striker was set to play in the new Premier League Soccer in India before it was postponed in February due to the unavailability of venues.
Fowler last played in the UK with Blackburn in 2008 and is the fourth highest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League with 163 goals.
He would join a Blackpool strike force which already contains 38-year-old Kevin Phillips and 35-year-old Brett Ormerod.
