Middlesbrough to bolster promotion push

Sky Sports understands that Middlesbrough hare set to seal a deal to sign Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey. The 19-year-old is set to move to Teesside on loan, but only after the Carling Cup final on Sunday. Shelvey has already spent time in the Championship this season when he shone during a 10-game spell with Blackpool - scoring six goals, including one against Middlesbrough. Boro boss Tony Mowbray has been looking for possible loan deals he described would be 'wow' signings and Shelvey would certainly rank in that category as a number of Championship clubs were understood to be keen on taking him. But he now looks to be heading to Middlesbrough and is due to join up with the North East club next week. Boro are still looking at bringing another striker in, and Sky Sports understands that a deal for Nottingham Forest's Ishmael Miller was close to being completed last week before he picked up a fresh injury. Mowbray is also believed to still hold an interest in Ipswich's Jason Scotland, and could make another loan approach.
