Defender not needed by Reds

Philipp Degen is looking for a move away from Liverpool after being told he does not feature in new manager Roy Hodgson's plans. The 27-year-old defender was brought to the club by former boss Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2008 but has faced a constant battle to make an impact at Anfield and has struggled with injuries, making just three Premier League starts. And with Hodgson coming into replace Benitez this summer, he has allowed Degen to look for another club, an offer that the Switzerland international is keen to take up. Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are reported to be interested in him, but Degen's main priority is to find first-team action. "If it is necessary after all, I am going to change clubs," he told Swiss newspaper BLICK. "I am not keen on sitting on the bench any longer, the last two years were enough. No one should really forget it needs hard work to recover from injuries and get back to the usual level of performances. "And I have had really good matches for the club."
