City boss says situation with keeper remains unchanged

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson is playing a 'wait and see' game as regards goalkeeper Adriano Basso's future at the club. The keeper requested a move in the summer after failing to agree a new deal but no bids came in. He has since made his first appearance of the season in Tuesday night's goalless draw with Swansea as Dean Gerken was unavailable due to illness. But while Johnson says the club are still talking to Basso about a new contract, his position remains unchanged. The City boss told the club's official website: "The chairman is talking to Basso and he knows my views on it.

Softly-softly

"We just need to go a bit softly-softly on it. The last time we said we're speaking to him there was a big headline in the paper that he'd climbed down. That disappointed the player and it set him back a month or two. "As we said, when we need him we would play him because he's still under contract and he gave his all when he needed to (at Swansea)." He added: "He's shown by keeping himself fit in training and not being down about everything that we're able to bring him straight in. "We'll have to wait and see how the situation develops."
